In the early 1990s, I became acquainted with the small civilized works of Pietro Loungi, the 18th century society painter. With Loungi in mind, I pulled together my affection of early cartoons, and Tom of Finland into this body of work.
Most of these graphite drawings captured moments from my day-to-day life in New York City. Almost always my animated self (avatar) is presented to the audience. Other, more simple drawings, explore aspects of my identity, how I consider my body and identity as a gay man, an artist, and as “other.”
This work columnated in two polychromed carved wood high relief wall sculptures.
